Announcements & the Booster Feed

Announcements are how your booster officers and band directors reach every family at once — schedule changes, payment deadlines, volunteer pleas, good news. Each post lands in the Booster Feed on every parent's Dashboard, on the organization's Announcements page, and in each family's notifications: the in-app bell, email, and (if enabled) a push notification on their phone. Every notification links straight to the post.

The first half of this page is for families reading and replying; the second half covers posting and managing announcements as an officer.

Reading announcements

You'll find announcements in two places:

  • Booster Feed — on your Dashboard, mixed in with payment reminders and volunteer sign-up posts. The newest announcements are at the top.
  • The organization's Announcements page — the full history in one place.

A post can be linked to a calendar event — "Uniform Fitting", "Car Wash Fundraiser" — so you can jump from the announcement to the event's details, RSVP, and volunteer spots.

Comments

When an announcement allows comments, you'll see a N comments link under the post. Tap it to expand the thread, read what other parents have asked, and add your own reply.

  • Comments are open to every connected family in the organization, so keep it friendly — a profanity filter may ask you to reword before your comment posts.
  • Officers can close a thread. A locked thread keeps its existing comments visible, but no new replies can be added.
  • If a comment was removed by an officer, you'll see a "Comment removed by an officer." stub in its place.

Some posts don't take comments at all — the officer turned them off for that announcement.

Notifications

Every family in the organization is notified when an announcement is posted:

  • In-app — the bell icon in the top navigation shows a new notification that links to the post.
  • Email — sent to your account's email address, unless you've turned announcement emails off.
  • Push — a notification on your phone or computer, if you've enabled push notifications on that device.

Manage both under Settings → Notifications — turn announcement emails on or off, and enable or disable push per device.

Posting an announcement (officers)

Any booster staff member can post — president, treasurer, or assistant — and so can the directors of the linked band.

  1. Open your Booster Organization page and go to Manage → Communication → Announcements. (Officers also get a Post an announcement quick action in the Your Booster Duties card on their home dashboard.)
  2. Click New announcement to expand the composer.
  3. Fill it in:
    • Title and Message — what every family will see.
    • Related Event (optional) — link the post to a calendar event. The announcement shows the event's name and date as a badge that opens the calendar on that event's month, where families can tap the event for details, RSVPs, and volunteer spots.
    • Allow comments — on by default. Uncheck it for one-way notices that don't need a discussion thread.
  4. Post it.

Posting notifies every family in the organization immediately — bell, email, and push, per each family's own preferences — with a link straight to your post.

Announcing an event? Link it.

If the announcement is about a calendar event, set Related Event instead of describing the details in the message. The badge takes families to the right month of the calendar, and the event itself stays the single source of truth if the details change later.

Managing a post (officers)

After posting, each announcement offers officer controls:

  • Edit — fix the title or message.
  • Turn comments off / Turn comments on — allow or disallow new replies on the post. Replies already made stay readable either way.
  • Lock / Unlock — a locked thread keeps its existing comments visible but closed to new replies. Unlock to reopen the discussion.
  • Remove a comment — take down an individual parent comment. The thread shows a "Comment removed by an officer." stub in its place.
  • Delete — remove the announcement and its entire comment thread.

Delete removes the whole thread

Deleting an announcement also deletes every comment under it, for everyone. If you just want to end a discussion, Lock the thread instead — the post and its comments stay readable.
